About
I’m Megan Newstead — a marine conservationist with a love for the sea, wild places, and the people working to protect them. With a background in ocean science, island biogeography, and community-based conservation, I’ve built my experience through a mix of academic research, fieldwork, and policy engagement. Whether I'm monitoring whale shark activity, gathering data on seabirds, or contributing to legislation, I’m always looking for ways to turn science into meaningful impact.
Alongside my degrees (MSc in Island Biogeography & Conservation and BSc in Ocean Science & Marine Conservation), I’ve worked across government, education, and non-profit settings, and bring practical skills as a PADI Divemaster, powerboat operator, climbing instructor, and field researcher. I’m just as comfortable on a boat or cliff face as I am at a desk, analysing data or contributing to policy planning.
This site is a place to share my work, connect with others in this space, and explore opportunities to grow. I’m currently looking for full-time roles in marine conservation — especially ones that blend research, outreach, and real-world action. If you’re working on something exciting or know of an opportunity that aligns, I’d love to hear from you.
